Unicorns Monster: A Bold Display Font for Creative Branding

It was a quiet afternoon when I opened a fresh brand board, the blank canvas waiting to be filled with color, texture, and typography. As I explored the latest display fonts, something caught my eye—Unicorns Monster. The name alone felt playful, but the visual promise of this brush-pen created font intrigued me. I decided to test it in a real branding project, and what followed was an engaging design journey that revealed just how versatile and expressive this font can be.

A Quirky Yet Clean Presence

Unicorns Monster is exactly what it sounds like—a bold, stylized typeface with a whimsical edge. Designed with a brush pen, it carries the organic, handcrafted feel of a real pen stroke, yet maintains a clean structure that makes it surprisingly readable even at larger sizes. It’s not overly ornate, but it has a distinct personality that stands out without being overwhelming.

The letterforms have a slight irregularity, as if they were drawn by hand, which gives the font a sense of warmth and authenticity. This makes Unicorns Monster ideal for projects that want to convey creativity, approachability, and a touch of playfulness. Whether it's for a boutique identity or a handmade shop, this font feels like it belongs in spaces where originality matters more than strict formality.

Testing Unicorns Monster in Real Projects

I used Unicorns Monster on a logo concept for a new bakery. The result was charming and memorable. The font's quirky nature helped the logo feel inviting and unique, standing out from the typical sans-serif options often used in food branding. When paired with a soft serif font for supporting text, the contrast added balance and professionalism to the overall look.

On a packaging mockup, the font performed well as a headline, drawing attention to product names and taglines. It also worked nicely on social media graphics, where its boldness made captions and headlines pop against colorful backgrounds. For a business card, I found that Unicorns Monster looked great as the primary text, especially when used sparingly and with enough white space to maintain readability.

However, I noticed that Unicorns Monster isn’t the best choice for long body text. Its character shapes are more suited for short phrases and headlines. In web design, using it as a header or hero section title brought energy to the homepage, but I wouldn’t recommend using it for paragraph text due to potential issues with legibility at smaller sizes.

When to Use and When to Avoid

Unicorns Monster shines in situations where you need a creative, eye-catching display font. It works beautifully for logos, brand boards, packaging labels, Instagram posts, and website headers. Its clean yet quirky style also fits well with editorial design, especially for creative magazines or blogs that aim to stand out visually.

That said, it’s not suitable for formal corporate use, legal documents, or anything requiring high readability across multiple lines. If your project involves small print, extended reading, or a very professional tone, consider pairing Unicorns Monster with a more traditional serif or sans-serif font for body text.

Practical Tips for Using Unicorns Monster

If you're considering Unicorns Monster for a client project, start by testing it in different contexts. See how it looks on a shop sign, a product mockup, or a digital banner. Check for consistency across platforms and ensure it complements your brand’s overall aesthetic.

Font pairing is key. Try combining Unicorns Monster with a modern sans-serif or a classic serif font to create a balanced visual hierarchy. Don’t forget to review the included styles, alternates, and ligatures—these can add subtle variety and enhance the font’s versatility.

Lastly, always verify the commercial font licensing before using Unicorns Monster in client work, brand identity systems, templates, merchandise, websites, or print-on-demand products. Ensuring proper usage rights will save you from potential legal complications down the line.
